Introduction
This roadside station is popular for its Okuaizu Showa Ramie Weaving, which has been designated as a traditional craft, and boasts the largest cultivation area and quality of baby’s-breath (karamushi) in Japan.
Small items and accessories made from the villagers’ handmade ramie and baby’s-breath, as well as dressings and sweets made from wild sesame, are popular.
There is also a restaurant where you can enjoy Handmade Juwari Soba, made from 100% buckwheat produced in Showa Village, and karamushi (baby’s-breath) ramen noodles which are only available here, and a museum where you can learn about the history of karamushi.

This wooden school building is over 80 years old. While it has been closed down, it is now reborn as a base for tourism and exchange. Enjoy the fantastic view of the 120-year-old ginkgo tree in the schoolyard, which changes its appearance with the seasons.
This is the second oldest marshland in Japan, formed about 80,000 years ago. It is home to about 350 species of plants and animals, including the endangered Naniwa dragonfly. The fresh greenery in the spring is beautiful, but the autumn leaves are a sight to behold.
